It's billed as a memoir about coping with a lifetime of feeling poor, and it is that; but it could also be seen as a memoir about a life like any other: a demonstration of the fact that every life, once you get down to the particulars, is laden with tension, drama, heartbreak, elation, suspense—all the stuff of story, great story. If you were to create a “must read” list for anyone interested in memoir, which books would you include? Another is Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Living to And of course Diary of Anne Frank.
